iPad / iPhone estate details

100,000
300
Total pilot + dedicated cockpit iPad/iPhone count requiring back-up. Typical pilot-to-aircraft ratio: ~10:1.

0.5%
Frequency of ETL sync failure requiring SD card fallback. Conservative default: 0.5% (1 event per 200 flights). Enter your own operational data when available.
40%
Not every SD card event causes a delay - many are absorbed in turnaround buffer. Industry estimate: 30-50% cause measurable departure delay. The rest incur a soft productivity cost only and are excluded from this model.
12 min
Median time to remove card, transfer to ground crew, confirm upload, return to pilot. Range: 5 min (clean swap) to 25+ min (data resync needed). Reactionary (knock-on) delay applies only to event duration above the 15-min turnaround buffer.
£65
EUROCONTROL baseline: £55–80/min (narrow-body). Adjust for your aircraft type.
75%
SureSIM is a resilience layer, not a guarantee. Not every airport or scenario has alternative network coverage. Default: 75% (honest working assumption - use your trial data when available).
Methodology & sources

Ground delay cost: Based on EUROCONTROL / University of Westminster Transport Studies Group, "Evaluating the True Cost to Airlines of One Minute of Airborne or Ground Delay". Narrow-body (A320/737 family) on-ground delay: €63–94/min. Default €75/min is a conservative midpoint; all-aircraft average is ~€100/min.

Reactionary delay multiplier (0.8×): Applied per University of Westminster / EUROCONTROL delay cost modelling methodology (Cook & Tanner). EUROCONTROL 2024 data confirms reactionary delay accounts for 46% of all European delay minutes - the largest single delay category. The 0.8× factor reflects average knock-on impact per minute of primary delay; actual impact varies with time of day, network density, and rotation pattern.

EU261/2004 compensation (Advanced): Applies when passengers arrive 3hr+ late. EU261 does not directly apply to a 20-minute ETL sync delay - this model assumes a % of ETL events occur during slot-constrained operations where knock-on effects cascade to a qualifying delay. Enable only if relevant to your operation.
